2017 was a challenging year in many ways but also a fantastic year for us! We took chances, made mistakes, got a little messy, and had a lot of fun! For this year end blog post, I'm going to focus on my five favorite things that we did in 2017!
In July we adopted this adorable little gray guy and he has been the absolute best thing that has happened to us in 2017! Valo, the big orange guy that you see behind him, took a little while to get used to Alfred. Now, they are inseparable!
2. Bought a canoe, went to the boundary waters, and saw these moose!
We have been to the boundary waters before, but this trip was especially memorable. It was the first trip we took with our own canoe! We found this heavy little red canoe listed on craigslist and snatched it up, and headed north to the north woods with it! This was first time my sister and our nephew got to experience these gorgeous lakes and it was fun to be the ones to introduce it to them! The BWCA is actually pretty fun with a couple of little boys along with!
To top off our trip, on our last morning, we saw a moose! Not just a moose, a momma and her baby! Seeing a moose has been a lifelong dream of mine, my hubby is still quite proud of himself for making it happen. You can read more about our moose sighting here and our entire BWCA trip here.
3. We planted Hydrangeas in front of our house!
It may seem odd that I'm following up a moose sighting with some flowers, but hydrangeas are a pretty big deal to me. My grandma lived in this gorgeously old brick house in one of those cute little neighborhoods where everyone knew each other and they had everything you needed within walking distance. Outside the front of her house were these gorgeous annabelle hydrangeas with giant green leaves and huge balls of white flowers. For as long as I can remember I have known that wherever I set down my roots, I was going to plant hydrangeas in front of my house just like her. This year we finally did it, now here's to hoping that these little babies pop up again in the spring!
4. We have a porch swing!
Another big addition to our home this year was that we finally finished this swing and hung it in our porch. This project took about 3 years to finish...
2015 - Ari bought the lumber and cut it down to size
2016 - Ari nailed all the pieces together and I stained it
2017 - Ari hung the swing!
5. Hiked a portion of the Superior Hiking Trail
I still have a love-hate relationship with this adventure. As my first backpacking trip ever it was hard and painful, but man was is also pretty glorious! Read more about our SHT adventure here.
Along with these 5 awesome things, we also enjoyed tons of little life moments as a family, Hani the intern turned 7, and we captured tons of memories for clients and continued to grow our business. I want to thank you all who have trusted your memories with us, those who follow us, and those who lift us up. We are incredibly grateful for each of you and we cannot wait to see what 2018 has in store for us!
